Amrut Releases Second Spectrum 004 Indian Single Malt Batch

Amrut is following its initial release of its Spectrum 004 Indian single malt with another limited-edition batch that once again is finished in four varieties of oak.

The Amrut Spectrum 004 Single Malt Whisky will see only 6,000 bottles worldwide, with the US allocation of 1,050 bottles coming soon.

Amrut’s distillers describe this single malt whisky as a mosaic of tastes and flavors lent by the four varieties of oak.

Spectrum 004 took what’s described as quite a journey to get from grain to bottle, including:

  • Initially matured in an ex-bourbon barrel before it was transferred to a custom-built, unique barrel constructed out of four different varieties of oak.
  • The four varieties of oak include American oak with level three charring, French oak with slight toasting, Ex-Oloroso Sherry stave and Ex-Px Sherry stave.
  • This bottling is named after the Spectrum cask it was aged in.

Whisky, traditionally, is aged in a cask made of one type of oak wood, which lends flavor and complexities to the malt. Amrut’s whiskey makers looked to experiment with a cask with four different types of wood. This, however, presented what they say is a unique challenge, as each oak wood stave had different thickness and properties.

Spectrum 004 Single Malt Whisky has a suggested retail price of $195 and the whisky clocks in at 50% ABV, 100 proof. It is being imported by Glass Revolution Imports.
