Alfred Giraud Whisky Releases New Voyage Expression To The US

Alfred Giraud recently released the Voyage French Malt Whisky to the US market as the first release in the brand’s new “Exploratory Range.”

This whisky is available in select markets beginning this month with a suggested retail price of $180. There will just be five casks released.

Voyage creates what’s described as a one-of-a-kind expression that personified the unique tastes of France, with Cellar Masters George Clot and Gaetan Marielle reaching the perfect balance by marrying two of the best French single malts. One leans on fruity notes and the other on cereal notes.

Each is matured in casks with so called bold characteristics: new French Robibia casks, a rarer wood found locally in France imparting strong white floral notes, and Sauternes wine casks, sourced from nearby French producers bringing sweet matured grape notes. It finishes its aging in ex-cognac casks before bottling.

“We are thrilled to bring the first of our Exploratory Range, Voyage, to our audience of discerning whisky enthusiasts in the United States,” said Philippe Giraud, fifth-generation Giraud family member and first-generation proprietor of Alfred Giraud French Malt Whisky, in a prepared statement. “This series represents the Giraud family’s dedication to innovation and craftsmanship, highlighting our finest single malts matured in distinctive and unusual casks not usually seen in whisky aging, with exciting results. We are so proud to introduce this beautiful expression of distinctly French Whisky, crafted from the precise, expert eye of our Cellar Masters Georges Clot and Gaetan Mariolle.”

The Giraud Exploratory Range is a series of rare limited whiskies that see only periodic and exclusive releases at the Giraud family’s discretion. Each expression exudes what’s said to be a refined elegant balance achieved by decades of blending experience and expertise.

The brand said in official tasting notes the Alfred Giraud Voyage has aromas of white flower, custard and honey, balanced with black currant and ripe grapes. On the palate, it’s soft and round with sophisticated sweetness. It has matured sweet grape, fresh flower and acacia honey, and a luxurious mouthfeel finish.
