Aber Falls Releases A New Single Malt Welsh Whisky

| September 16, 2021

Aber Falls Distillery out of Wales has launched its Single Malt Welsh Whisky, a bottling created using 100% Welsh malted barley.

All of Aber Falls’ whiskies are curated using rock-filtered water taken from the Aber Falls Waterfall and made by a team of local people. It is then stored and matured in a traditional dunnage warehouse along the Menai Straits, before being bottled on site at the distillery. This new bottling was distilled in a mix of copper pot and stainless-steel stills and includes a mix of Oloroso sherry casks, PX sherry casks, Bourbon casks and Virgin Oak casks.

Deep amber gold in color, this Single Malt Welsh Whisky offers an aroma of sweet fruits with a hint of clove and delivers a palate consisting of sweet sherry notes, dark chocolate and espresso, according to official tasting notes. It finishes off with dried fruit and subtle spice.

“The perfect whisky is made up of exceptional ingredients, ideal conditions and well considered casks made of top-quality wood,” Master Blender Dr. Kirstie McCallum said in a prepared statement. “In particular, the two sherry casks used for this Single Malt have provided a very enjoyable flavor that we’re incredibly proud of.”

In celebration of this release, Aber Falls has also partnered with Welsh bartender, Alex Mills to create an Old Fashioned, but with a Welsh twist, consisting of honey from Nature’s Little Helpers in Cardiff, Black Welsh tea from Tea Traders in Carmarthen, Coffee bitters from Dyfi Coffee in Machynlleth and the new bottling. The recipe takes 50ml of the Single Malt, 15ml honey, a pinch of black tea and five drops of coffee bitters. Stir and serve over a block of ice.
