Tullibardine Adds Tullibardine 1970 to its Custodians Whisky Collection

Tullibardine 1970Tullibardine distillery, out of Scotland’s Highland region, last year debuted a whopper of a whisky for its new Custodians collection: a 1952, 60-year-old bottling housed in a Baccarat crystal decanter. The second expression from this luxury lineup is now available, taking the form of the Tullibardine 1970.

Tullibardine 1970 is a 44-year-old Scotch whisky that’s been bottled at 40.3% ABV, fairly close to the line for what can still be called Scotch single malt. It is the combination of two sherry hogsheads, one a first-fill and the other a second-fill, according to the distillery. It is both non-chill filtered and of natural coloring.

Whereas the Tullibardine 1952 was priced at a staggering $31,000+, the amount being asked for Tullibardine 1970 seems to be a little more reasonable (comparably), at under $900. Its presentation is much more standard, arriving in a more conventional bottle and box. Still, it seems is a pretty solid expression for what it is.

Limited official tasting notes from Tullibardine for the 1970 are below for your consideration. Only 400 bottles of it are being made available globally.

Mature, highly fragrant with rose pedals, old bees wax and intnese. On the nose tangerine and sublime citrus freshness abound counterbalanced with sweet barley and a touch of vanilla.

There are hints of almonds, spice, creme brûlée and baked bananas to taste which combine beautifully with the citrus & sweet barley notes from the initial nosing.
