Three Loch Lomond Inchmurrin Scotches Find Their Way To America

The Loch Lomond distillery, located in Scotland’s Highlands region, is not the most famous Scotch whisky in the American market. But that isn’t stopping domestic importer A. Hardy USA from bringing three bottlings from the distillery’s Inchmurrin line here, however, as they aim to capitalize on an audience thirsty for new whisky.

The Loch Lomond Inchmurrin line, named after the largest of Loch Lomond’s islands, includes the Inchmurrin 12-year-old, Inchmurrin 18-year-old, and Inchmurrin Madeira Wood Finish. Here are the details on each, as spelled out by A. Hardy:

• Inchmurrin 12-year-old is aged in three hand-selected types of casks and features a distinctively light and fruity nose with a peppery finish. It was awarded a Gold medal at the 2016 World Whiskies Awards. Tasting notes described Inchmurrin as “Double cream, light olive oil and dry wood on the nose, opening to orange zest with water. The taste is sweet, spicy and interesting.”
• Inchmurrin 18-year-old is aged in the highest-quality casks and its long maturation process brings out the sweeter notes of this single malt whisky. Inchmurrin 18-Year-Old was crowned Best Independent Merchant Single Malt and received a Double Gold medal at the 2016 San Francisco World Spirits Competition. Inchmurrin 18-year-old is a “silky smooth single malt with biscuit and tropical fruit flavors, infused with layers of nut, spice, ginger and citrus fruit characters.”
• Madeira is aged in American oak casks that have been previously used to age Madeira wines. The casks enhance the sweetness of the whisky and add nutmeg and marzipan flavors. The Madeira finish was a Gold Medal winner at the 2016 San Francisco World Spirits Competition.

All three whiskies have been bottled at 46% ABV and are non-chill filtered. No specific pricing information was mentioned by the distributor.

“National distribution is currently being arranged through our distributor network,” said A. Hardy USA president Mark Levinson in a prepared statement. “Daily inquiries regarding Inchmurrin’s availability are already coming in, demonstrating the popularity and potential of this product in the U.S. market.”
