The Macallan Opens A High End Shop In London’s Heathrow Airport

Luxury Scotch single malt whisky brand The Macallan and parent company Edrington, over the last year or so, has been going through a major upscaling of this whisky maker’s already upscale offerings. Part of this stepping it up strategy has also been in the facilities in which it hangs its hat, such as the opening last year of a new, nearly $190 million state of the art distillery. Alongside that it has also ventured into fancy whisky storefronts in select international airports, the first of which happened recently in Dubai. Now word is they’ve opened a second travel boutique, this time in London’s Heathrow airport.

The new The Macallan Boutique, according to those behind it, is now located in what’s described as “a a highly visible location immediately after security in Heathrow Terminal 5.” Serving as an advanced welcome of sorts to those who might be passing through this airport to catch a connecting flight up to Scotland to visit the distillery itself, the storefront is said to bring “to life the world of The Macallan through a prestige retail experience.”

Perhaps what will be most front and center to those who stop in this store, which is being done in partnership with travel retail outfit Dufry, is a “carefully curated range of rare whiskies, some of which are exclusive to The Macallan Boutiques. Highlights of the prestige collection will include expressions from itsFine and Rare Collection, The Macallan 72 Years Old in Lalique – The Genesis Decanter, the new Macallan Boutique Collection, The Macallan Folio 5 and expressions from The Macallan Exceptional Single Cask collection.”

“Following the unveiling of our Boutique in Dubai earlier this year, this opening at Heathrow, in partnership with Dufry, will connect even more whisky-lovers across the world to our home on Speyside,” said Suzy Smith, Managing Director, Edrington Global Travel Retail, in a prepared statement. “As Europe’s busiest airport with over 80 million passengers annually, and with a stellar reputation for delivering first-class retail, Heathrow is an ideal location to offer another gateway to the world of The Macallan.”
