The idea that those who buy Scotch have thousands of extra dollars sitting around to spend on whisky inspired accessories seems to be spreading amongst the distilleries. Recently The Dalmore and some partners unveiled a spendy luxury chess set that comes with its own bottle of expensive Scotch, and now rival The Glenlivet has teamed with a renowned London-based furniture maker on the chair to end all chairs for sipping your whisky in.
Drawing its inspiration from its Nàdurra range of cask strength offerings produced using so-called traditional methods such as being matured exclusively in sherry casks, the The Glenlivet Nàdurra Dram Chair is handcrafted by Gareth Neal. Neal is known for reinterpretation in furniture design, resulting in “individual pieces for the international collectors market, … bespoke commissions for private clients, & the design of production pieces for industry.”
Available in what is described as an edition of 10 made exclusively for The Glenlivet fan club known as the Glenlivet Guardians, the chairs are crafted from oak, oak-bark tanned leather and copper detailing. One key feature called out by the distillery on this exclusive piece of furniture is customization of “which arm of the chair should be equipped to house a dram.”
As for price expect to cough up a little over $9,800 for one of these bespoke chairs, each of which will “be etched and numbered to create subtle variations and originality for collectors.” You can learn more about it in the video below.
