The Balvenie Twenty-Five Makes Debut As Rare Marriages Range Released

The Balvenie distillery recently unveiled its Rare Marriage line of premium single malts, and it debuts with The Balvenie Twenty-Five.

Distillery officials noted the Rare Marriages assortment pays homage to The Balvenie Malt Master David C. Stewart’s six-decade Scotch whisky profession. “It combines the talent and artistry of conventional oak Tun marriages with liquid from European and American casks,” a prepared statement from them reads..

As the title suggests, The Balvenie Twenty-Five is aged for 25 years. It comes in at 96 proof and is a pure-colored, non-chill filtered liquid.

Malt Master Stewart, the longest-serving malt master in Scotch whisky, mixed the Twenty-Five’s liquid from particular casks to create “an incredibly intricate and balanced expression,” he said.

The distiller’s official tasting notes on The Balvenie Twenty-Five show the nose provides hints of autumn fruits, honey and crystallised ginger with an underlying oakiness. The taste combines vanilla flavors with layers of toasted marshmallows, fruit terrine and cinnamon-infused apple tart. It finishes with lengthy-lasting sweetness.

The Balvenie Twenty-Five is offered in a bespoked case etched with golden rings to symbolize its years of maturation. Further expressions to be released from the Rare Marriages line are The Balvenie Thirty (88.4 proof) and The Balvenie Forty (Cask Strength).

Stewart said the Rare Marriages Range is designed to unveil intricacies of Balvenie’s whisky in a marriage of extraordinary character.

“This range displays the very essence of luxury by way of the expertise of layers of flavors,” he said. “On the surface, the first release of The Balvenie Twenty-Five expression is immediately recognizable as The Balvenie with the distinct rich honey and underlying oakiness. However, when given time, the flavor unfolds to reveal a whole new depth … from toasted marshmallow and caramelized pear to citrus richness and mellow oakiness.”
