The Balvenie Turns To All American Oak For 25 Year Old Single Barrel Expression Scotch

balvenie-25You could say The Balvenie distillery has been on a bit of a new release cycle of late, coming out in recent months with Tun 1509 and two 50 year old single malt whiskies. Up next? A 25 year old, single barrel expression that was traditional oak aged and prices for around $630 USD (£400).

The new The Balvenie Single Barrel Traditional Oak Aged 25 Year Old is drawn from malt aged exclusively in American oak casks. As these are one shot deals across individual barrels, each of which will yield no more than 300 bottles, what will be reflected on each hand numbered bottling is the distillation and bottling date and cask number in which the whisky was matured.

Each non-chill filtered expression is bottled at 47.8%. Flavor wise it is described by The Balvenie in general as having “subtle spices and rich honeyed sweetness.” As these are single barrel offerings, however, expect there to be some slight differences in what’s in your glass from cask to cask.
