Springbank Out Of Scotland Debuts New 17 Year Old Whisky Aged In Sherry Oak Casks

springbank-sherry17Scotland’s Springbank distillery, as we’ve talked about in the past, is notable among whisky drinkers for several reasons, including the fact it is only one of a handful of distilleries in that region of the world to handle every step of the Scotch making process onsite. One of its latest releases from this dedicated process is the new, limited edition 17 Year Old Sherry Wood.

Springbank’s 17 Year Old Sherry Wood, according to the distillery, was matured in 100 percent sherry oak casks for its decade and a half plus slumber. It was bottled at a cask strength of 52.3% and limited to just 9,120 bottles being released globally.

Price wise expect to pay £85 (around $130 USD) if you can find a bottle of it at your local whisky retailer. Official tasting notes for it are below courtesy of Springbank.

Nose: A sherry explosion with winter fruits, spicy gingerbread and a hint of peat.

Palate: A winter warmer. Dark orange chocolate, Christmas cake and brandy snaps. Honey and spices develop over time.

Finish: The finish is long and smooth. Espresso coffee, liquorice, marzipan and sherry conclude the tickling of the taste buds.

Whisky Review: The Bruichladdich Thirty

We review The Bruichladdich Thirty, a Scotch single malt aged for three decades in ex-bourbon casks laid down around the time the distillery shuttered for seven years starting in 1994.
