Springbank 12 Year Old Cask Strength Comes Again To Retail

Springbank 12 Year Old Cask StrengthThe recent word of Scottish distillery Springbank’s Longrow Red whisky bottling was also accompanied by news of the second 2015 round of its bi-annual, 12 year old cask strength expression. What exactly is cask strength each time this Scotch comes out varies a little, with this time around it clocking in at 53.8% ABV.

The August 2015 Springbank 12 Year Old Cask Strength, according to the distillery, was matured in a combination of 70% sherry casks and 30% bourbon casks. It, like previous releases in this series, is limited edition in nature, totaling 9,000 bottles for global release.

Official tasting notes for the whisky from Springbank are below. You can already find previous 12 year cask strength bottlings at retail through a range of online retailers, with an average price of around $90.

Nose:  There’s a saltiness similar to Campbeltown Loch fishing creels, a typical Springbank maritime style. Spicy notes are very dominant: cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon sticks and some ground black pepper.

Palate:  Lip licking – thickly buttered gingerbread, sticky toffee pudding and crème brûlée. Cream and butter really coat the mouth in classic Campbeltown style.

Finish:  Dry finish ending with barbecue smoke and chicory sauce.
