Speyburn Adds 15-Year-Old Scotch Whisky To Its Portfolio

The Speyburn distillery in Scotland, established in 1897 by John Hopkins, crafts its Speyside whisky from the Granty Burn, a stream flowing with soft and clear spring water and a major tributary of the River Spey. As part of its product line born in part from these waters comes now the new Speyburn 15-Year-Old.

The Speyburn 15-Year-Old, according to those behind it, has been matured in American oak and Spanish oak casks over the course of its decade and a half slumber. It is a limited edition offering, with just 3,500 cases of this 92 proof expression set to be made available annually.

“We’re excited to release the 15 Years Old expression, with its distinctive rich taste and aroma, we’re sure this spirit will satisfy whisky enthusiasts looking to extend their collection,” said Gillian Gibson, Speyburn Brand Manager, in a prepared statement. “Since 1897, Speyburn has had a long history of working with the natural sources of Speyside, dating back to when our founder John Hopkins first established the distillery after discovering the Granty Burn.”

Plans call for the 15 year old to become available this coming November for $65. You’ll find limited official tasting notes below from the distillery.

The distinctive amber liquid with golden highlights has the aroma of subtle dark chocolate, vanilla, orange, raisins and spice. The rich taste is bursting, with notes of citrus fruits and has a creamy, warm and long-lasting finish.
