Smokehead Releases Limited-Edition Stout Cask Whisky Expression

Smokehead Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky recently said it is twisting what it says is whisky tradition with its latest release: Twisted Stout.

The whisky brand, said to be one of the fastest-growing single malts in the UK, has released the brand-new limited-edition expression that has been partly finished in stout casks. It is priced at a recommended retail price of £49.99 in the UK and with an ABV of 43%.

Twisted Stout brings what’s described as a smooth, sweet and silky experience with the signature Smokehead peaty punch. The creamy malt stout flavor adds unfamiliar notes of rich chocolate and treacle toffee, vanilla ice cream, roasted nuts and toasted biscuits.

“Our unique  and disruptive Smokehead thinking has led to some convention challenging, trail blazing, rule breaking whiskies over the years that don’t follow the usual traditions and rituals,” Iain Weir, Smokehead Brand Director said in a prepared statement. “We’ve clearly struck a chord with those who do things their way, live life on their own bold terms, and pick a whisky that’s as disinterested in the status quo as they are. Twisted Stout is as far away from a standard single malt as the combination of tastes, aromas and flavours inside the bottle.”

The brand said its tasting notes come with sweet aromas of chocolate and treacle toffee, with maritime air. The taste is salty and smoky with hints of roasted nuts, toasted marshmallow, vanilla ice cream and coffee. The finish has wood smoke and spices and is malty with toasted biscuits.

Smokehead recently also launched its first ever pre-mixed single malts in a ready to drink can serve, including the smokehead mixed with Cola, and Smokehead mixed with Ginger and Lime.

Smokehead is produced by Ian Macleod Distillers, “one of Scotland’s leading independent, family-owned distillers, blenders and bottlers.”
