Rare Port Ellen 33 Year Old Among New Diageo Offerings

Diageo, as part of a greater fall release cycle of hard-to-find Scotch whiskies, has dug deep into the vaults of some of its historic distilleries to unveil three new premium travel retail offerings. They are being described as “some of the rarest, most distinctive and most valuable whiskies in the world,” with only a few hundred bottles of each in existence.

The first, a 43 year old single cask bottling from the Cragganmore distillery, is believed to be the oldest ever official whisky released from there. Only 474 bottles are being made available, each pricing around $3,800, and it will be available only in Dubai.

Moving up the price scale, the next offering is a 36 year old release from Royal Lochnagar which will price around $5,550. While only 174 bottles of this are being released, those hoping to score a bottle of it will be happy to note a small allocation of it will be made available outside of travel retail.

Port Ellen 33 Year Old

Rounding out the trio is the high-punching Port Ellen 33 year old, of which just 210 bottles are being made available. It will drop at a staggering $7,020, with this extremely high price likely representing the fact whiskies released from this long closed distillery are more and more among some of the world’s most highly sought after by collectors.

“We are investing in our amazing range of single malts to drive growth in the Scotch category in travel retail,” said Diageo Global Travel and Middle East Global Marketing Director Peter Fairbrother in a statement. “Each of these exclusive single malts has a distinguished heritage and a compelling story and presents a unique opportunity for collectors and whisky lovers to own a piece of Scotch whisky history.”
