A special auction lot at a recent Sotheby’s whisky sale fetched $250,000 for an exclusive, limited-edition version of one of The Macallan’s recent releases, Distil Your World New York.
The special auction, which benefited a non-profit arts organization, offered collectors the only opportunity to acquire one of two bottles created of Distil Your World New York Single Cask Edition. The second bottle will be kept in The Macallan archive.
The big-ticket item Distil Your World New York Single Cask Edition bottle is housed in a blue presentation box featuring an engraved aerial map of New York, a booklet about the bottle and Distil Your World New York series signed by the talent featured in the Distil Your World New York documentary that aired with the release of the original bottle.
A dining experience at El Celler de Can Roca for the lucky collector and three guests accompanied the sale.
Proceeds will go to ChaShaMa, a New York City-based art organization that nurtures artists by transforming unused real estate into affordable work and presentation spaces.
Geoff Kirk, channel director secondary market for The Macallan, said they’re delighted to continue their partnership with Sotheby’s to present special releases that raise funds for charitable organizations around the world.
“The Macallan has a longstanding history celebrating artistry and supporting the arts and we are proud that the funds from this very special release, which pays homage to one of the world’s most iconic cities, will benefit New York City artists through the ChaShaMa charity,” he added.
Jonny Fowle, Sotheby’s head of whisky and spirits, said this auction marked an exciting start to the year “with an exceptional result that nearly tripled the pre-sale estimate for the limited-edition release. We are proud to have seen a depth of bidding around the world to benefit New York City artists through the ChaShaMa charity.”
