Pulteney Distillery Adds 25-Year-Old Scotch To Its Portfolio

The Pulteney distillery, makers of Old Pulteney Scotch whisky, is located in the remote fishing village of Wick in the northern Highlands region of Scotland. It is from here they occasionally churn out older bottlings, such as the relaunch of their 35-year-old last year. Now they are back with a quarter century old expression in the form of the 25-Year-Old.

The Old Pulteney 25-Year-Old, according to those behind it, was initially aged in ex-bourbon American oak barrels for 22 years. From there it was finished for a few additional years in ex-oloroso Spanish oak butts to gain deeper color and a spicy, sweet flavor profile. It is bottled at 46% ABV.

Plans call for this older Scotch whisky to be available around the world starting next month for £300, or about $400 USD. It is presented in a special box, and you’ll find official tasting notes for it below for your consideration from Pulteney.

“We’re extremely proud to launch this premium addition to our core range,” said Karen Walker, marketing director at International Beverage, in a prepared statement. “As one of the finest single malt whiskies in the world it embodies both Wick’s spirit of endurance and the Pulteney Distillery’s signature coastal style.”

The expression opens with heavy spices and dark chocolate which effortlessly lead to rum-soaked raisins and lime honey, punctuated with clean notes of orange peel and baked apples.

The flavour is firmly anchored in bitter chocolate and creamy vanilla with hints of toffee sweetness and crisp overtones of fresh lemon and coconut. The finish is long and spicy with a glimpse of dried fruit cake and exotic wood, ensuring each dram reflects its expert craftsmanship with a rich and satisfying taste.
