New Highland Park Whisky Single Cask Supports COVID-19 Emergency Fund

By Hannah Kanik / April 19, 2021

The Highland Park single malt Scotch whisky brand recently teamed up with Kevin & Nick, the friends behind the popular Scotch in the City Instagram account, to create a special single cask release. Proceeds from this partnership will be donated to a COVID-19 emergency response fund that aids children of first responders.

The Highland Park Single Cask Series Scotch in the City Edition is releasing just 594 bottles. The Highland Park distillery selects a small number of its top casks each year, which are chosen by Master Whiskey Maker Gordon Motion for what’s described as their extraordinary character and flavor.

For this release, The Scotch in the City founders Nick and Kevin blind tasted several cask samples with Gordon to select Cask #150 — a first fill American oak sherry puncheon. The cask was originally filled in 2008 and left to rest for 11 years before its coming of age in 2019.

The whisky has official tasting notes making mention of a crème brulee aroma, flavor notes of vanilla, rose, cedar wood and lemon peel and a finish of lingering woody spices. It’s bottled at a natural cask strength of 65.4% alcohol by volume and is non-chill filtered.

“As native New Yorkers whose main work is as first responders, we have experienced and witnessed the impact of the pandemic on families and businesses first-hand,” Nick and Kevin said in a prepared statement. “When the opportunity came up to partner with Highland Park on a special release, it was imperative that we use this to give back.  Through this donation to The First Responders Children’s Foundation COVID-19 Emergency Response Fund, we are so grateful that we’ll be able to give families impacted by the crisis a bit of relief.”

The Highland Park Single Cask Series Scotch in the City Edition release is now available for sale on Caskers with a suggested retail price of $155.
