Kingsbarns Distillery Wants You as a Founder

Kingsbarns Distillery Founders’ ClubIf you have the chance, it can be fun to get in at the ground level of a whisky distillery as they are first producing white spirit. The challenge, often, is that it can be very expensive to do so, as you are often required to buy a barrel minimum to be among the first to own some of that product. Not so, however, with young Scottish operation Kingsbarns and its recently unveiled Founders’ Club offering.

The Kingsbarns Founders’ Club, limited to just 3,000 members worldwide, provides the following to those who sign up, according to the distillery:

  • An initial welcome packet consisting of a 200 ml bottle of Kingsbarns Distillery New Make Spirit, a Founders’ Club Glencairn glass, a membership badge, and welcome letter.
  • Around mid-2018, members will receive a bottle of the “exclusive Kingsbarns Founders’ Club Reserve, enabling them to become one of the very first to taste Kingsbarns Single Malt.”
  • Each year after, for four subsequent years, members will receive a further Founders’ Club Reserve bottle, “allowing members to enjoy the progression of the single malt.”

Should you want to join the club before it sells out, memberships are £500 (around $600 or so USD).

Kingsbarns, for the unfamiliar, is located in Fife, which is in Scotland’s Lowland region. The distillery is only a little over a year old, and opened in November, 2014. The first new make spirit ran through its stills in January of last year, which is why it will be a minimum of three years before Founders can try a sample of the aged Scotch.

This whisky making facility, by the way, is also tied to the Wemyss family, who is best known to Scotch drinkers for their Wemyss Malts independent Scotch bottler company. Their releases so far include a blended malt whisky range consisting of The Spice King, The Peat Chimney and The Hive; a number of single malt single cask bottlings; and a blended Scotch named Lord Elcho after one of the Wemyss family’s ancestors.
