Johnnie Walker The Commemorative 1920 Edition Marks a Milestone

When one thinks of Scotch whisky brands with aglobal presence, Diageo’s Johnnie Walker is unquestionably at the forefront. There are bottlings in this line targeting drinkers across all continents and themes. For true devotees, certain overseas markets have Johnnie Walker House locations – think temples for all things Walker – which contain expressions unique to just them.

It is at one of these Johnnie Walker Houses that you’ll find the limited run of new Johnnie Walker The Commemorative 1920 Edition, a release that celebrates the “milestone year when John Walker & Sons whisky blends travelled from the four corners of Scotland to 120 countries across the globe.”

Johnnie Walker The Commemorative 1920 Edition

The Johnnie Walker The Commemorative 1920 Edition, according to Diageo, is the fifth release in the Epic Dates Collection which, you guessed it, focuses upon important years in the Walker brand’s history. Each whisky from this line is truly a one-off bottling, including whiskies in their blends which come from silent distilleries. For this particular release, only 540 bottles are said to have been made available,

with each individually numbered and signed by Master Blender Jim Beveridge. The blend, crafted specially using a modern interpretation of a classic technique used in 1920, is also impossible to replicate in the future as it includes whiskies from silent distilleries. One such whiskey is Rosebank, which delivers top notes of fresh fruits and a sweetness from the ex-bourbon oak casks in which it was originally matured to the elegant blend.

The 1920 Edition, pricing around £1,970 (about $2,900 USD) per bottle, will be available at just the Johnnie Walker House locations in Singapore, Taiwan, Mumbai, Schiphol, Israel, Korea, and Auckland. Limited tasting notes for it are below, and should you miss it because you can’t get to a Walker House, take note Diageo has plans to open new locations “in leading global cities in Middle East, Latin America, and North America” over the next three years.

Featuring a fresh, fruity fragrance with floral hints of heather and sweet vanilla, Johnnie Walker The Commemorative 1920 Edition offers a smooth and welcoming rich flavor. Almonds, toffee and fudge combine with fresh fruit on the palate, giving way to a gentle Highland smoke finish – a true celebration of the blends of the time.
