Isle Of Arran Scotch Distillery Offers up Casks Full of Whisky for Sale

The Isle of Arran whisky distillery, located on Scotland’s Isle of Arran, has gotten popular enough in recent years that it began the construction of a second whisky making facility on the south side of its namesake island in an area known as Lagg. As part of a way to raise more funds for the distillery’s new location and also draw up more awareness to its brand, a new whisky cask purchasing program has been unveiled.

What’s being called the Lagg Cask Society, according to those behind it, allows for the purchase of one of the first 700 casks of Scotch whisky to be produced and laid down at the Lagg distilling location by late 2018. Each of these casks, which will cost £6,000, or about $8,300 USD, will remain aging at the distillery for a minimum of a decade. It is believed when ready these ex-bourbon casks will produce approximately 280 700 ml bottles of heavily peated Scottish single malt, and at the time they are ready owners will then have the opportunity to bottle the spirit, complete with a limited-edition Lagg Cask society label, or pay an annual fee to continue the maturation process until the desired age is attained.

Every cask owner will also become a member of the Society and will be guaranteed a bottle from the very first cask to be filled at Lagg. In addition each member will have their name displayed on the Lagg ‘Wall of Fame’ and receive an invite to the Lagg Cask Society Members Day for a first-look of the distillery and visitor centre before its official opening in spring 2019. This is all on top of a free stay at the historic Lagg Hotel, a 12 month Arran golf pass, complimentary tours of Lagg, and 10% off all purchases in the visitor centre for 10 years.

“The Lagg Cask Society is the next chapter of the story of malt whisky on Arran,” said Euan Mitchell, managing director of the Isle of Arran Distillery, in a prepared statement. “In releasing these casks, we are inviting people to join the Arran family and lay down an exclusive Lagg dram that they can call their own for a fee in line with prices currently being paid for individual bottles of rare Single Malt. Bottles from the Lagg Cask Society barrels will provide unique opportunities for gifts and investment, the ideal present to lay down for future generations, as well as the simple enjoyment of sampling the finest of spirits.”
