Here's Some New Old Scotch From Bottler Douglas Laing For Some Decent Prices

One thing independent Scotch whisky bottlers are good at is digging out old casks of fine spirits which have been aging for a long time, bottling them up and offering them to market at decent prices. Such is the case with a new line of expressions from Douglas Laing & Co that’s been dubbed XOP for Xtra Old Particular.

The line up of XOP initially contains six aged single malt and single grain Scotch whiskies that herald from across Scotland’s various whisky regions. Each release from one particular cask only, making them limited to say the least. All were bottled in a totally natural style, without coloring and chill filtration and at cask strength.

Highlights of the first batch of this new line up from Douglas Laing includes a Macallan 26 year old, an Invergordon 40 year old grain and a Caol Ila 30 year old. All come in special wooden boxes and include regionally colored bottle labels and individually numbered certificates.

I’ve included shopping links for each below that I could find on a quick Internet search that ship to the US as I’m not sure how much, if any, of these will be offered for sale domestically. Prices are current as of when this post was published.

Cask Fraud Addressed in Scottish Parliament

The potential impacts of cask investment fraud on the scotch whisky industry was discussed in the Scottish Parliament in April 2024, hopefully paving the way for more regulation within the industry.
