Glendronach Grandeur 24 Year Old Scotch Comes With A Fancy Case

glendronach-24One thing I can often be a sucker for, especially when it comes to Scotch, is the unique packaging some whisky comes in. One distillery who is good at this is Speyside whisky district based Glendronach, founded in 1826 and currently owned by the BenRiach Distillery Company. Its newest release is the very limited edition Grandeur 24 Years Old which, yes, does come in a slick looking case.

The Grandeur 24 Year Old, according to the distillery, replaces the Grandeur 31 Year Old, which sold out (and of which one is in my personal collection). Only 569 individually hand numbered bottles of this special spirit are being released, aged for what’s described as almost a quarter of a century in ex-sherry oak casks and bottled at 48.9% ABV.

Tasting notes from the distillery indicate this burnt amber colored whisky to have on the nose a combination “of honey-drenched dates and succulent raisins which gently ebb and flow with waves of delicate orange blossom, mint and cracked black pepper.” It hits the palate with “the delicate sweetness of rum-soaked golden sultanas [that] refines rich espresso, dark chocolate and treacle toffee. Zesty orange oil softens [it] to a deep clove spice.”

This bottling, batch number 4 of the Grandeur releases, looks to be pricing online for over $450 a bottle.

Whisky Review: The Bruichladdich Thirty

We review The Bruichladdich Thirty, a Scotch single malt aged for three decades in ex-bourbon casks laid down around the time the distillery shuttered for seven years starting in 1994.
