GlenAllachie Releases Second 30-Year-Old Cask Strength Single Malt Batch

The GlenAllachie just launched the second installment of its oldest and most valuable core offering, the 30-year-old Cask Strength Batch 2 Single Malt Scotch Whisky.

Just shortly after announcing whisky veteran Billy Walker’s 50th anniversary in the Scotch whisky industry, the distiller follows that news with this next batch of the 30-year-old spirit.

Batch 2, which carries a suggested retail price of £600, is a limited release of 2,000 bottles globally, each bottle encased in a bespoke black box with gold foil detailing.

The second installment blends mature whiskies from eight casks handpicked by Walker from whisky stocks spanning more than 50,000 barrels maturing across 16 on-site warehouses at GlenAllachie.

To make this particular whisky, Walker selected 1990 and 1991 vintages matured in six former Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso Sherry hogsheads and puncheons, along with two 1990 American virgin oak barrels that were toasted and charred to a medium level.

The result of Walker’s blending and wood management is a whisky with rich Sherry-matured elegance, a flavor profile that reveals layers of Seville orange, coffee beans, coconut and Medjool dates.

The Speyside Single Malt is bottled at its cask strength of 50.8% ABV, and is non-chill filtered and has no added color.

“When we first unveiled our 30-year-old Cask Strength annual release last year, we were completely overwhelmed and humbled by the immensely positive response from whisky fans around the world,” Walker said in a prepared statement. “This fuelled me with great enthusiasm to get underway with the next batch, endeavoring to raise the bar even higher with this installment.”

One of Scotland’s few independently owned and managed distilleries, The GlenAllachie’s cask budget for 2022 stands at £2m/$2.6m. The distiller recently chose to reduce production capacity from 4M to 500,000 liters of alcohol and increase the fermentation period to 160 hours for an ester rich, fruity spirit.
