GlenAllachie Debuts Third Batch Of Its 21-Year-Old Cask Strength

The GlenAllachie Distillery recently launched a third batch of an expression from its oldest core range, The GlenAllachie 21-year-old Cask Strength Batch 3 Single Malt Scotch Whisky.

Batch 3, with a suggested retail price of £275, is a run of 2,400 bottles. The small-batch Scotch whisky is a blend of single malt matured in three vintage Pedro Ximénez Sherry puncheons.

A statement from GlenAllachie notes that each cask was personally selected and blended by Billy Walker, who over the course of his 50-year career has earned recognition for his exceptional wood management capabilities and sensory instinctiveness.

This whisky was chosen from the Speyside-based distillery’s inventory of more than 50,000 casks held on-site. The distiller notes that the Spanish Sherry casks have imparted bold and complex flavors, joining the heather honey character of The GlenAllachie’s house style.

In his notes, Walker explained that the walnut-colored liquid features hints of “black grapes, fresh espresso, brandy butter and stem ginger, leading to indulgent dark chocolate fondant.”

The bottle comes encased in a suedette-lined pine green box with gold foil detailing. The whisky itself clocks in at its natural cask strength of 51.5% ABV.

“Whisky is a waiting game, and after years of careful planning, I never tire of the anticipation; it’s pure excitement,” Walker said. “Each and every cask at the distillery is regularly monitored to ensure we bottle the very best whisky available for each expression. This is what led me to pick these three richly seasoned Sherry puncheons to create this new batch of our 21-year-old.”

The launch of Batch 3 coincides with the release of the next batch of The GlenAllachie’s 10-year-old Cask Strength offering: Batch 8. With a suggested retail price of £65, it clocks in at 57.2% ABV and features “intense waves of cinnamon spice, comforting mocha, honeycomb and candied walnuts.”
