Independent bottler Douglas Laing & Co recently introduced the second Sherry Cask Edition of their Campbeltown Malt Scotch whisky brand, The Gauldrons.
A statement from the whisky maker notes that this new release follows in the footsteps of the first Sherry Cask Edition, which was the first ever limited-edition release from The Gauldrons. It premiered back in April of 2022.
The Gauldrons brand joined Douglas Laing’s Remarkable Regional Malts in 2017, wrapping up the range of Scotch whisky regions with the final addition of Campbeltown.

This most recent edition joins the existing core bottling and is limited to 5,580 bottles.
Emma Reid, The Gauldrons’ brand manager, explained that The Gauldrons is inspired by the dark sandy coves on Campbeltown’s west shores, and it literally means “bay of storms.”
It was on those sandy coves that King Robert the Bruce, having been defeated by his enemies, was inspired while watching a spider building its web to have patience, never give up.
Thus, Reid noted, the spider has become synonymous with The Gauldrons’ core expression, featuring again in this new limited edition.
This Sherry Cask edition comes packaged in a black bottle featuring dark gray and red colorways, highlighting the Sherry cask maturation. The gift tube features The Gauldrons’ apothecary style label.
The whisky itself is a blend of single cask single malts strictly from the Campbeltown region, and it was finished in Spanish Sherry casks that the blender noted has “perfect balance, with an explosion of rich, dark fruits and spice alongside the salty and maritime notes Campbeltown is famed for.”
“The Gauldrons brand celebrates Campbeltown’s illustrious history as a whisky-making region and this expression of The Gauldrons cements Douglas Laing’s commitment to showcasing the very best of Campbeltown,” Reid said.
The Gauldrons Sherry Cask Finish clocks in at 50% ABV and is available from specialist retailers and online with a suggested retail price of £65 / €74 / $72.
