Dewar’s Adds French Smooth Blended Whisky To Its Portfolio

Dewar’s recently shared it is blending French and Scottish flavors for one of its newest expression, the French Smooth Scotch Whisky.

In a statement from the whisky maker, it’s noted that this Scotch is finished in Apple Spirit (Calvados) Casks. The fifth new whisky in the Casks Series, the French Smooth uses a new finishing process to the double-aged Dewar’s blend for the first time, which the distillers say makes a smooth whisky with a difference.

The Apple Spirit (Calvados) casks come from the orchards of Normandy, France. The whisky blend utilizes the oak that creates the traditional Calvados cider to enhance the sweetness of the whisky. The distillers note that it gives the blend notes of baked apples, citrus, and a hint of cinnamon.

Dewar’s Master Blender Stephanie Macleod is the mastermind behind this fifth iteration in the Casks Series. She explained that the whisky blend starts with a mix of more than 40 single malt and grain whiskies aged for eight years in Scotland, blended and aged again before being finished for up to six months in the Apple Spirit (Calvados) casks.

And that brings about Dewar’s French Smooth, which clocks in at 40% ABV, and has a suggested retail price of $24.99 per 750ml bottle. It’s available nationwide and online.

To celebrate its launch, Dewar’s offered a unique cocktail recipe for the French Smooth:
