Deanston Oloroso 20 Year Old Embraces Its Sherry Side

Deanston Oloroso 20 Year OldScotland’s Deanston distillery, which earlier this year released an 18 year old Scotch whisky, announced recently a slightly older bottling which may be of interest to those who liked more sherried expressions. Known as the Oloroso 20 Year Old, it is being billed as a limited edition offering.

The new Deanston Oloroso 20 Year Old, according to the distillery, was fully matured in at the Perthshire distillery in ex-Oloroso sherry casks before being bottled at a cask strength of 55.3% ABV. It is said to have been “crafted without the aid of modern technology, using only the finest Scottish ingredients, including barley grown in the local fields and soft water from the River Teith. The unchill-filtered liquid retains all of its natural flavour and character.”

“True to the heritage of Deanston Distillery, which is rooted in community values, the Oloroso 20 Year Old has been crafted with the utmost care and dedication,” said Alison Gibb, global marketing manager at Deanston owner Burn Stewart Distillers, in a statement. “The rich, creamy, spicy influences imparted by the wood from the ex-Oloroso sherry casks give this malt a truly special character and we’re excited to announce its release in time for the festive season when it can be enjoyed with friends and family.”

The whisky is set to price around £110 ($170 USD), and you can find official tasting notes for it below.
