The Dalmore Offers Up Collection of Port Cask Finished Whiskies

Scotland’s The Dalmore distillery is known for both its high end whisky releases and also its use of cask finishing to create some rather unique expressions. Its master distiller Richard Paterson, having just come off celebrating 50 years in the whisky industry, is truly a master of his craft, and this latest collection of bottles to be released are another fine example of his work.

The Dalmore Vintage Port Collection, according to those behind it, takes Scotch from three different vintages that were each aged in American white oak ex-bourbon barrels, and finishes them in exclusive ex-Port pipes from W&J Graham’s out of Portugal. Though no specifics were given on finishing time, what is known is that the vintages are from 1996, 1998 and 2001, effectively creating whiskies which are around 20, 18 and 15 years old, respectively.

All three whiskies will be available in limited numbers, with official pricing and tasting notes below from The Dalmore.

“For me, port and whisky complement each other perfectly, with port providing a fruitier palate to The Dalmore’s deep and complex new make spirit,” said Paterson in a prepared statement. “Being able to finish these new releases in pipes of Graham’s port, which are some of the finest quality, during my anniversary year is incredibly exciting. I’m delighted to be able to continue our founder’s vision of creating new expressions that push the boundaries of what’s possible in the luxury single malt category.”
