Chivas Regal Teams With Top Flight Soccer Team For New Scotch

Extremely popular blended Scotch whisky brand Chivas Regal is seen today as selling 4.5 million 9-liter cases annually across more than 150 countries around the globe. It certainly doesn’t have to do anything to stay extremely relevant, but tie ups with other popular consumer brands, such as extremely popular English Premier League soccer team Manchester United, are something it seems to have little problem in pursing, particularly when it results in a co-branded whisky release.

The new Chivas 13 Manchester United Special Edition, according to those behind it, is a 13 year old blended Scotch whisky that’s been “selectively finished” in ex-American rye casks (i.e. portions of it are finished as such). It is bottled at 40% ABV and represents the first that’s been created exclusively for the U.S. market where Manchester United has over 8 million fans.

“At Chivas we believe that blended is better, in life and in Scotch – a belief that was also brought to life on the field during Sir Alex Ferguson’s tenure at Manchester United,” said Sandy Hyslop, Director of Blending at Chivas, in a prepared statement. “This whisky has been crafted to celebrate his rare genius and unique ability to drive success year after year, with a blend of different players.

“Just as Sir Alex’s legacy lives on, we hope that, with our first ever 13-year-old and its inimitable selective American rye cask finish, we’ve created a blend that won’t soon be forgotten.”

As it stands now plans call for this release to be available starting this fall with a price of around $35 per 750 ml bottle. Very limited official tasting notes suggest that, as a result of the American rye cask finishing, this whisky has magnified “the sweet, delicate notes of the unrivaled Chivas house-style, resulting in an exceptionally smooth Scotch with notes of sweet and juicy orange citrus, creamy milk chocolate and a dusting of cinnamon.”
