Cask Islay Single Malt Scotch Embodies Island Flavors

cask-islayIndependent Scotch bottler A.D. Rattray was founded by one Andrew Dewar Rattray in 1868 in the Scottish city of Glasgow. It is owned now by Tim Morrison, previously of Morrison Bowmore Distillers and fourth generation descendent of Rattray. He has bottled for his company a selection of “his own handpicked stock of whiskies for market release,” and now A.D. Rattray has a new release sporting Islay characteristics.

Known as Cask Islay, this new single malt Scotch whisky is said to be small batch. Said as well to be specially selected by those at the bottler to embody what the Islay region offers, it is described as being “lively, peaty and full of flavor” and has no age statement.

Tasting notes for Cask Islay, according to A.D. Rattray, indicate a golden color spirit that, on the nose, is warm and fiery with hints of roasting peat kiln and some citrus notes after the smoke. On the palate is reported tastes of oily, burnt toffee, juicy barley and rich peat smoke, that finishes in a rather peaty fashion.
