Bowmore Introduces New Timeless Series With Two Limited Release Single Malts

Bowmore Single Malt Scotch Whisky recently kicked off a new series of releases—dubbed the Bowmore Timeless Series and so named because they are “crafted and shaped by time”—with two limited edition bottles: Bowmore Timeless 27 Year Old and Bowmore Timeless 31 Year Old. And the distillery is celebrating this with a stylish website that features a short film directed by French artist Thomas Vanz.

The new web presence goes deep into the creation of these new expressions, highlighting the blend of ingredients, emphasizing the aging process, and giving a nod to the distillery’s close proximity to the Atlantic Ocean, which has influenced the flavor of Bowmore’s whisky from their earliest days.

According to the distillery, The Bowmore Timeless 27 Year Old was matured for 15 years in sherry and ex-bourbon casks before being transferred to oloroso butts for 12 more years. The 52.7% ABV whisky is then bottled at cask strength. As for the Bowmore Timeless 31 Year Old (45.4% ABV), the whisky remains in ex-bourbon casks for 29 years and then finished for two years in Spanish oak Matusalem Sherry seasoned butts. Official tasting notes for each bottle are below.

“For the Bowmore Timeless Series, the key is the careful selection of the right casks at the right time,” Ron Welsh, Bowmore’s master blender, said, in a prepared statement. “This enables us to determine when the spirit has reached its peak or if it should be left longer to develop its character further. This careful balance is vital to ensuring the optimal character of our whiskies, promising exceptional flavor delivery.”

In hopes of encouraging drinkers to savor these whiskeys, each bottle is packaged with an hourglass that, when turned, will run for three minutes—the better “to enjoy the nose of this beautifully balanced masterpiece that has taken decades to perfect,” according to the press release announcing these expressions.

Bowmore is only releasing 3,000 bottles of these additions to the Timeless Series. The 27 Year Old will be available at retailers worldwide, with an SRP of $1,525 USD, while the 31-Year-Old will only be available for global travel retail (SRP $2,100 USD).
