Scotland’s Bladnoch distillery recently announced it is unveiling Liora, its first ever cask strength expression, to its “Classic Collection.”
The new Bladnoch Liora, according to those behind it, is bottled at a distiller’s strength of 52.2% ABV. It was created from a pairing of bourbon and new oak casks, and is without chill filtration and of natural color.
“Liora embodies the delicate balance between the intensity of the New Oak and the sweetness of the Bourbon casks,” said Master Distiller, Dr. Nick Savage, in a prepared statement. “On the nose you can expect juicy fresh cut apples along with toasted caramel and floral notes. As you taste Liora, on the palate you’ll get caramelised toffee apples along with peppery spices and fresh cut oak.
“A truly magnificent dram with a long finish with a slight warming dryness.”
The name, Liora, has its origins in Hebrew, meaning “the gift of light.” This single malt is made from water from the the River Bladnoch that flows alongside the distillery as well as Scottish barley. Pricing at £70, it is available through the distillery now and in the coming months, around the world through Bladnoch’s network of distributors.
