Blade Runner 2049 Gets Its Own Johnnie Walker Scotch Bottling

Whisky product placements seem to be a bit more of a front forward item in movies at the moment. We saw this most recently from Brown-Forman, with its twin placements of Old Forester and Glendronach expressions in the upcoming Kingsman movie. Now word from Diageo is they are dropping a special Johnnie Walker variant in the soon to hit the big screen Blade Runner 2049.

Johnnie Walker Black Label The Director’s Cut, according to those behind it, was created by Diageo Master Blender Jim Beveridge in collaboration with filmmaker Denis Villeneuve. The two are said to have spent time “exploring the characteristic building blocks of flavor behind classic Johnnie Walker blends,” before settling upon something that is somewhat familiar but also at the same time unique.

“Like many fans, I remember the Johnnie Walker bottle from the first film, so it was a unique privilege to collaborate with Johnnie Walker on designing a totally original, custom bottle for the new movie,” said Villeneuve in a prepared statement. What he is referring to in the bottle is a futuristic design inspired by the Johnnie Walker Black Label iconic prop from the original Blade Runner film.

“What we have created in Johnnie Walker Black Label The Director’s Cut is something really special that fans will be able to relate to and whisky drinkers will love,” added Beveridge. “I was truly inspired by Villeneuve’s artistic vision for Blade Runner 2049 and how it could come to life in this new blend.”
