Big Peat Breaks Out The Smokehouse Edition To Commemorate Fèis Ìle 2023

Islay malt brand Big Peat has unveiled a special bottling for the Fèis Ìle 2023 festival, Big Peat The Smokehouse Edition.

A statement from Douglas Laing noted that this whisky clocks in at 48% ABV, and this global limited edition was finished in red wine casks.

This is the first-ever wine finish from Big Peat, and fans of the Islay malt will find aromas and tastes of dark fruits, dried cherries, smoked meats, and red currants, according to the distiller’s notes.

The Smokehouse Edition comes packaged in a white and gold gift tube decorated with artistic wisps of smoke, marking a distinct departure from Big Peat’s classic colorways. Each bottle features a red wax seal from Big Peat, the mascot of which sits front and center, embossed in gold foiling on the bottle.

For the launch of this whisky, the Big Peat team has said that Fèis Ìle 2023 ticket holders will get to try the new festival release, alongside various Big Peat expressions and an Islay Single Cask Single Malt, paired with fresh local foods.

Emma Reid, Big Peat’s brand manager, said that fans of the whisky have a chance to try something completely different in The Smokehouse Edition.

“This is Big Peat as you have never seen him before, finished predominantly in red wine casks, giving the already robust and smoky spirit a layer of added complexity and character, ideal for enjoying with a celebratory steak,” she said. “Fèis Ìle is the perfect time to try The Smokehouse Edition, Fèis go-ers appreciate all that is Islay and the island is abuzz with whisky fans ready to enjoy themselves, come rain or shine.”

Big Peat The Smokehouse Edition Fèis Ìle 2023 is now available from specialist whisky retailers in the UK, Europe and Asia, and at various online retailers. It has a suggested retail price of £65 / €74.
