Balvenie 50 Year Old Going for $2,600 a Glass at Hotel

Balvenie 50 Year OldLooking for a one-off experience to try if you ever find you yourself in Vancouver, B.C.? Have $2,600 CAD to drop as well? If the answer is yes to both these questions, you can then be among the lucky to enjoy a sip of a rare 50-yea- old whisky purchased by a high-end hotel and soon to be available for tasting in their lobby lounge.

The Fairmont Pacific Rim is considered among the elite of Vancouver hotels, so it makes sense they would be the ones who, after randomly winning a lottery for the right to buy, ponied up $45,000 CAD to purchase a bottle of Balvenie 50 Year Old. This uber-rare Scotch, of which only a small amount was made available worldwide, only had one bottle for sale in Canada, and now this lodging establishment is the one breaking it open to share with others.

So what do you get exactly for this very pricey dram, which happens to sit at the top of a list of the most expensive whiskies for sale in the world, should you happen to find yourself in the lobby lounge? A one ounce pour, to be exact, served to you “in your very own handcrafted and specially numbered ‘collector’s edition’ Baccarat crystal glass.” You’ll also likely get the envious stares of those around you who become aware of the brown spirit you are enjoying.

“We often host a sophisticated clientele in The Lobby Lounge who enjoy the finer experiences in life,” said Grant Sceney, head bartender at Fairmont Pacific Rim, in a statement. “This Scotch is in itself a part of history and highlights years of elegant craftsmanship. It’s very rare that an opportunity like this comes along, and it represents our ongoing commitment to being the best lounge in the city and offering a unique experience for our guests.”

The Balvenie 50, which was bottled at 45.4% ABV, will be available in this special experience starting February 12. It’s a little rich for us, but should you end up trying it leave us a comment about your adventures and we will be very, very jealous.
