Arran Distillery Set For Limited 17-Year-Old Whisky Release

1800390_812341742114851_1044404594_nBeing a fan member of a distillery, as I’ve talked about before, can have its perks. Arran fans, belonging to what’s known as the White Stag club, got one of those recently with early notification and exclusive information on a soon to be released 17-year-old single malt expression that will be a limited release.

The new Arran Malt 17-year-old will see a total of 9,000 bottles released globally starting at the end of March, with a U.S. presence happening by June. It follows a limited 16-year-old offering which came out last year, and also is part of a trilogy that leads up to the release of the distillery’s 18-year malt in the spring of 2015. This latter one will be one of Arran’s latest to date, given that it was founded only in 1994 on a Scottish island that was without a legal distillery for many years.

Tasting notes that were provided to club members for the 16-year-old, made from 100 percent sherry casks, are partially provided to you here (I encourage you to join the free club for full details). They indicate a golden colored whisky that on the nose has, among other things, hints of candied citrus peel and tinned mandarins. It opens up on the palate to “plenty of sweet spice with cigar tobacco” before finishing with the “slightest puff of bonfire smoke in the tail.”

In an interesting side note, the distillery hinted as well that the final release of its highly coveted The Devil’s Punchbowl Trilogy will be arriving with at the end of June.
