Arran 18 Year Old Becomes Permanent Whisky For Isle Of Arran

Arran 18 Year OldScotland’s Isle of Arran distillery, fresh off the heels of a quarter cask influenced whisky release a few months ago, is back in the new bottlings news with word of an 18 year old permanent line extension. This Scotch follows on the heels of a trilogy of limited edition expressions designed to get its fan base ready for the distillery’s oldest whisky to date.

Isle of Arran was founded just 21 years ago, which makes its new Arran 18 Year Old whisky all the more impressive. Sitting alongside 10- and 14-year old bottlings as part of the core line up, this Scotch is said by Arran to display ” the tremendous depth of character of our distillery.” The previously mentioned trilogy it comes after included 16-, 17- and 18-year old offerings, the latter of which was heralded as a preview of the now permanent one.

“This is a very special bottling for us, said James MacTaggart, master distiller at the Isle of Arran Distillery, in a statement. “As the most mature expression of the Arran Malt it represents the very best of the distillery in this, our 21st year.”

As the only distillery on the island, we stand for its centuries of whisky-making tradition. The 18 Year Old is a worthy reflection of this heritage with all the depth of aroma and flavour for which Arran malts have become known around the world.”

Should you want to hunt down a bottle of the 46% ABV Arran 18 Year Old, expect to pay at least around £75 (about $110 USD) as it becomes available globally over the next several months. Official tasting notes from Arran for it are below for your consideration.

Gold in colour, caramelised citrus and tropical notes mingle on a background of toasted oak.

The classic Arran flavours of citrus and orchard fruits combine with milk brioche and dark chocolate for a luxurious finish that lingers on the palette.

A drop of water reveals light floral notes and the delicious aroma of orange fondant creams.
