‘Sweet Or Sour?’ Asks Bushmills Irish Whiskey With Two Curated Cocktails

Bushmills Irish Whiskey is encouraging its fans to enjoy a Bushmills summer cocktail to see out the season. The brand is also interested in knowing whether you prefer a sweet or sour cocktail.

As the summer comes to a close (pumpkin spiced latte, anyone?) Bushmills Irish Whiskey is encouraging its fans to enjoy a Bushmills summer cocktail to see out the season. The brand is also interested in knowing whether you prefer a sweet or sour cocktail. If this were the cocktail Olympics, which would win? 
To answer this question, Bushmills has created two cocktails, one sweet and one sour, and is asking fans to sample both and award a Gold medal to just one. So, here are the recipes for both cocktails. Why not give both a try and let us know your winner in the comments below? 

The Bushmills Orchard Spritz 

On the sweet end of the spectrum, we have the Bushmills Orchard Spritz. The cocktail contains Bushmills 10 Year Old Single Malt Whiskey. This award-winning expression has been praised for its use in a whiskey highball. However, the Bushmills Orchard Spritz takes one step further, adding apple and elderflower to create the perfect summer serve. 

Here is how to make it. 

Ingredients: 

  • 35ml Bushmills 10 Year Old Single Malt 
  • 15ml elderflower liqueur 
  • Sparkling apple juice
  • Ice
  • Apple crisp for garnish 


Method: 

  1. Add the Bushmills 10 Year Old, elderflower liqueur and ice to a glass.
  2. Top up with sparkling apple juice. 
  3. Stir, garnish with an apple crisp, and serve. 
  4. Enjoy! 


The Bushmills Whiskey Sour 

Not a sweet cocktail fan? Not to worry. This Irish twist on a classic cocktail adds Bushmills Irish Whiskey to a Whiskey Sour. 

Ingredients: 

  • 50ml Bushmills Black Bush 
  • 25ml fresh lemon juice
  • 15ml sugar syrup
  • 4 dashes of Angostura Bitters 
  • 1 egg white (optional) 
  • Ice
  • Lemon twist for garnish 


Method: 

  1. Add the Bushmills Black Bush, lemon juice, simple syrup, egg white (optional), and Angostura Bitters to a shaker and shake for 30 seconds without ice. 
  2. Add ice to the shaker and shake again until chilled. 
  3. Strain into a rocks glass. 
  4. Top with a lemon twist. 
  5. Enjoy!

Personally, I love a sweet cocktail, and the Bushmills Orchard Spritz combines the stunningly summery flavors of apple and elderflower with the complex notes of the Bushmills 10 year Old. It is the perfect summer sip as we wave goodbye to the sun and hello to fall.
