Slane Irish Whiskey, Red Bay Coffee Join Forces To Celebrate National Irish Coffee Day

Ireland-based Slane Irish Whiskey recently announced a collaboration with specialty coffee roaster Red Bay Coffee to create a custom whiskey-inspired coffee, the Oakland Irish Roast, in celebration of National Irish Coffee Day today.

Red Bay’s Oakland Irish Roast is a medium/dark blend that was crafted by their Head Roaster to pair perfectly with Slane Irish Whiskey in an Irish coffee. It will be available for purchase online at www.redbaycoffee.com for one day only: January 25 — National Irish Coffee Day.

“While Slane Irish Whiskey celebrates whiskey all year round, National Irish Coffee Day is one of the biggest days to come together and toast flavors that not just warm us but inspire us,” said Alex Conyngham, co-founder of Slane Irish Whiskey in a prepared statement. “This past year taught us the appreciation of not only a well-crafted cocktail but of taking a break for ourselves with a cup of coffee. We’re honored to collaborate with Red Bay, who I had the pleasure of visiting back in 2019.

“They are at the forefront of inclusion, creativity and sustainability and have created a unique roast that celebrates everything we love about Irish whiskey and coffee for the holiday.”

Slane Irish Whiskey has what’s described by the brand as complex, rich and delicate notes. To tie to this, Red Bay selected a robust, complex Indonesian-Sumatran coffee with flavors of warm spices and chocolate. Oakland Irish Roast was developed as a medium-dark roast intended to pair well with whiskey and cream for the perfect Irish Coffee.

“Red Bay is not just a coffee company – we are a group of innovators, artists and activists who love what we do, which includes dreaming up bold flavors and new ways to enjoy coffee,” added Keba Konte, founder of Red Bay Coffee. “When Slane Irish Whiskey invited us to partner, we knew it was more than just an epicurean fit, but a cultural fit too.  We’re two brands looking to create a lasting legacy for our communities and families with high-quality products and a dedication to sustainability and inclusivity for both our employees and our consumers.”

Competitive Barista Michelle Johnson’s Irish Coffee Recipe

Materials:

  • Irish Coffee glass
  • Bar spoon or soup spoon
  • Cocktail jigger
  • Cocktail shaker OR mason jar & lid

Ingredients:

  • 1oz Slane Irish Whiskey
  • 3oz Red Bay Coffee Oakland Irish Blend brewed
  • ¼ oz of brown sugar simple syrup OR ½ tsp of brown sugar dry
  • ½ cup of heavy whipping cream (must be full fat!)

Directions:

  1. First, pour the heavy whipping cream into your cocktail shaker or mason jar and shake vigorously for 15-20 seconds or until the cream thickens. You’ll be able to hear the liquid start to quiet as it thickens up. Make sure the shaker or jar lid are secured otherwise you’ll end up with a mess!
  2. Once the cream has set, set aside.
  3. Add the brown sugar or syrup to your glass.
  4. Pour in the Slane Irish Whiskey.
  5. Next add the brewed Red Bay Oakland Irish Blend. You should have about 1.5 inches of space left between the liquid contents and glass rim.
  1. If using dry brown sugar instead of simple syrup, stir after adding the coffee to dissolve the sugar.
  2. Grab the heavy cream, take a bar or soup spoon, and slowly pour the cream over the back of the spoon to the rim.
  3. No need to stir — include both the cream and coffee/whiskey mixture in each sip as you enjoy!

Cask Fraud Addressed in Scottish Parliament

The potential impacts of cask investment fraud on the scotch whisky industry was discussed in the Scottish Parliament in April 2024, hopefully paving the way for more regulation within the industry.
