Northcross Irish Whiskey Debuts As Triple Wood Matured Expression

From Ireland’s Great Northern Distillery, in time for St. Patrick’s Day, comes a new Irish whiskey … Northcross Triple Wood Irish Whiskey.

Now hitting liquor store shelves, Northcross is noted for its blend of whiskies and for being a high-quality, flavorful whiskey for under $25.

A recent statement from Great Northern Distillery notes that the new whiskey was crafted and matured in Ireland, made from a blend of whiskies distilled in copper pot stills and matured in a combination of ex-bourbon barrels, Oloroso Sherry casks, and virgin American oak.

This is the first whiskey offering from Northcross.

Located in the city of Dundalk in Ireland’s County Louth, the Great Northern Distillery is situated about halfway between Dublin and Belfast, just south of the border with Northern Ireland.

There, Northcross is made using high-quality, local grain and pure spring water from the nearby Cooley Mountains.

Terry Lozoff, spirits director at parent company Latitude Beverage, said, “The triple maturation process used to craft Northcross brings an impressive level of flavor and complexity to the spirit, especially considering the $25 price point. It’s a distinctive alternative to other similarly-priced Irish whiskeys, making it a great option for not only cocktails but also for sipping neat or enjoying on the rocks.”

The distiller’s notes show that the whiskey is rich on the nose, with aromas of graham cracker and honey. On the palate, the sweetness of the malt is present with flavors of chocolate syrup and beignets, then tastes of butterscotch and orange zest.

The finish shows the influence of the sherry maturation with notes of marzipan and dried cherries.

Northcross Irish Whiskey is non-chill filtered and comes bottled at 86 proof (43% ABV). It has a suggested retail price of $24.99 and is available for purchase online in most states.

It’s available in limited retail distribution initially, in markets including Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, and Rhode Island.
