Midleton Very Rare Introduces Ultra-Rare Single Malt The Pinnacle Vintage

Irish Distillers recently announced a one-of-a-kind, single bottle release that represents the first NFT sale of Midleton Very Rare whiskey.

A statement from the distiller notes that the new Midleton Very Rare The Pinnacle Vintage offered one whiskey enthusiast the opportunity to taste the whole Midleton Very Rare collection in a single expression, and this will be the rarest bottle of Midleton Very Rare ever made.

It turns out, The Pinnacle Vintage was the fastest sale to date on BlockBar, a global marketplace selling wine and spirits authenticated by blockchain directly from luxury brands.

The bidder reserved the bottle just two seconds after going live at 10 a.m. EST on Feb. 28th.

The statement from Irish Distillers also noted that this is the highest value single bottle whiskey sold via NFT to date, priced at $130,000.

The unique expression is made up of a portion from each of the 40 annual Midleton Very Rare expressions, as well as a cask sample of traditional single pot still distilled in 1984 under then master distiller and founder of the Midleton Very Rare collection, Barry Crockett.

Irish Distillers explained that this single bottle encapsulates the Midleton Very Rare DNA, paying homage to Barry Crockett and those he inspired, spanning five decades and three master distillers’ work.

The distiller’s notes for this rare bottle explains that the buyer will experience tropical fruit notes of peach and melons to old worn leather and antique furniture on the nose, flavors of dark chocolate and green tea are then closely followed by the sweetness of muscovado sugar, vanilla, and honey-drizzled figs.

Orange oil and passion fruit tastes continue, while the pot still spices and floral grain flavors remain constant in the background.

Master Distiller Kevin O’Gorman said The Pinnacle Vintage is “crafted from a marriage of rare and storied expressions produced over the past 40 years, and a treasured cask sample of single pot still whiskey distilled under Barry Crockett, Midleton Very Rare The Pinnacle Vintage is an Irish whiskey that can never again be replicated.”

The physical bottle of Midleton Very Rare The Pinnacle Vintage is a one-off cut glass decanter, which is stored in BlockBar’s facility in Singapore. It comes with a digital certificate of authentication and can be traced back to Midleton Distillery in Ireland.

Blockbar stores and insures Midleton Very Rare The Pinnacle Vintage, and the owner may redeem, sell or gift the physical bottle at any time.

As part of the sale of the bottle, a donation will be made to the Forest Genetic Resources Trust, partners of the Midleton Very Rare team at Irish Distillers. The Trust supports the conservation, improvement, and use of native and naturalized tree species in Irish forestry. Funds donated will be used to create a seed orchard that will support the future of Midleton Very Rare projects.
