Micil Distillery Releases New Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey

The whisky makers at Micil Distillery just introduced their newest single pot still Irish whiskey, the second their Island Series, the Micil Madeira Island Irish Whiskey.

A statement from Micil explains that this new expression makes three in the Micil Irish Whiskey core range, along with Micil Earls Island and Micil Inverin Small Batch.

The Micil Madeira Island clocks in at 46% ABV for a 70cl bottle. The new expression is limited to 1,754 bottles, and has a suggested retail price of €55.

The distillers note that this single pot Irish whiskey was inspired by the Galway distilleries of the past and the city’s historical trade links with France, Spain and Portugal.

The spirit gets sweet, dark and stone fruit notes from a Madeira wine cask finish. Ex-peated quarter casks bring a hint of turf smoke.

Micil Distillery Founder Pádraic Ó Griallais said that in about a year, they’ve seen their team double in size, from 5 to 10 people, bringing in multiple awards, and increased distribution almost tenfold.

“It’s great to be able to bring another new Irish whiskey to the market to cap it off,” he added. “We’re committed to bringing sourced, finished and independently bottled single pot still whiskeys to the market that showcase new flavor profiles within the category and Micil Madeira Island does just that. With crisp candied citrus and underlying smoke, it’s a whiskey we’re tremendously proud of.”

Micil Managing Director Ross Tobin said that while their independent whiskey range grows, they will be focused on “creating amazing spirits in our distillery, with a number of distillery exclusive poitín releases complete, due for release before Christmas.”

Micil Distillery products are available throughout Ireland and Europe through their website and  through O’Briens Wines, McCambridges of Galway, The Celtic Whiskey Shop, Online at IrishMalts.co and through independent stores across Ireland.
