Egan’s Legacy Reserve Series Concludes With A Moscatel-Finished Irish Whiskey

Egan’s Irish Whiskey’s Legacy Reserve series was designed to honor the history of the Egan family as integral bonders and bottlers in the whiskey industry.

Every bottling in the Legacy Reserve Series began as a single malt matured for several years in American bourbon barrels, with every expression completing the aging process in a unique cask style.

The fourth and final addition to the Legacy Reserve portfolio was finished in Moscatel de Valencia casks and will be highly limited, only 1,000 bottles worldwide.

“The Legacy Reserve series is one of the most personally meaningful projects we have ever embarked upon,” said Jonathan Egan, brand founder, in a prepared statement “Each expression is an example of the magic different finishing casks can work on the same exemplary base whiskey. The culmination is Legacy Reserve IV, the ultimate entry in this particular story, perfectly narrating the artistry of our family’s craft.”

Legacy Reserve IV is an 18-year-old Irish single malt matured in American Bourbon barrels and finished in Moscatel de Valencia casks.

These barrels, which once held Spanish dessert wine, impart what’s described as a sweet aroma and a rose gold color in the whiskey. The distiller’s notes show that on the nose is a blend of burnt orange, nougat, and jasmine flowers. The palate delivers apricots and honeysuckle, finishing with a lingering black pepper note.

Egan’s, now a multi-generational brand, was established by brothers Henry and Patrick Egan in 1852 in Tullamore, County Offaly, in the heart of Ireland. In 2013, the fifth and sixth generations, Maurice and Jonathan Egan, took over the dormant enterprise and have since sourced and aged expressions that celebrate their family history.

“Legacy Reserve IV is a once in a lifetime whiskey,” said John Ralph, CEO of Intrepid Spirits, the brand’s distribution partner. “The balance and depth found in a glass of this exceptional spirit truly allows you to taste history; not only the life of the whiskey, but the generations of experience that came together to forge something so richly evocative.”

Egan’s Irish Whiskey Legacy Reserve IV is limited to 1,000 750ml bottles which have a suggested retail price of $200. It comes in at 46% ABV, 92 proof.
