Egan’s Irish Whiskey Brands Adds A 15 Year Old Premium Offering

The Egan’s Irish whiskey label was, at one time, tied to a leading Irish merchant house that spanned a range of of commercial endeavors that included malting, brewing, and bottling. It eventually fell by the wayside, only recently being revived by fifth & sixth generation members of the Egan family. The latest bottling, a premium expression, is now set to come to market in limited numbers.

The Egan’s Legacy Reserve Irish whiskey, according to those behind it, is a 15 year old expression that’s spent its entire time aging in ex-American bourbon barrels. Each bottle is said to have been hand selected by by Maurice and Jonathan Egan, whose forefathers Patrick and Henry Egan were the ones responsible for first starting the brand.

“We’ve been in the whiskey-making business for over a century and a half; that’s six generations of Irish blood in each bottle,” said Jonathan Egan in a prepared statement. “Legacy Reserve is an ultra-premium single malt, about as perfect as an Irish whiskey can get.”

Legacy Reserve is said to be limited to just 1,000 bottles released worldwide. It is bottled at 92 proof and costs around $200 per bottle. Very limited official tasting notes suggest “a characteristically spicy palate, pairing toffee and vanilla with fruits and citrus, full-bodied while hinting at oaky dryness.”
