Drumshanbo Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey Hits The United States

Palm Bay International, looking to gain reentry into the Irish whiskey category, recently released its latest import: the Drumshanbo Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey — the first edition of The Shed Distillery’s flagship, small-batch Irish whiskey.

Drumshambo Single Pot Irish Whiskey is the first Irish whiskey to come out of Connacht, a western province, in over 105 years. It’s distilled by hand at the Shed Distillery of PJ Rigney from a blend of malted Irish barley, un-malted Irish barley and Irish barra oats.

This whiskey was aged five years in first use ex-Kentucky Bourbon and ex-Oloroso Sherry casks and was bottled at 43% alcohol by volume. It is said to be a smooth, creamy and spicy full-bodied whiskey.

“We are thrilled to restore Irish oats to the distillation of Single Pot Irish Whiskey, resulting in this rare Irish Whiskey of extraordinary depth, creaminess & elegance,” Patrick Rigney, managing director and founder of The Shed Distillery of PJ Rigney, said in a prepared statement

This still whiskey joins the Drumshanbo Gunpowder Irish Gin as the second offering available in the Shed Distillery’s US portfolio. It’s rolling out nationwide at a suggested retail price of around $65 at 750 ml bottles.

“Drumbshanbo Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey is a well-balanced whisky that dances effortlessly between sweet and spice, possessing a full, rounded mouthfeel that lingers on the finish,” added Brian Taft, The Shed head distiller.

The Shed Distillery was created in 2014 by PJ Rigney in the heart of rural Ireland, specifically in Drumshanbo, Co Leitrim. The whiskey comes packaged in a premium gift carton. Official tasting notes you’ll find below.

  • COLOR: Amber
  • NOSE: Toasted nuts, vanilla honey, and toffee notes accompanied by sweet dried fruit
  • PALATE: Winter spice, redcurrant, and coconut shift elegantly to deeper notes of dark chocolate, almond, and oak. A creamy, full bodied mouthfeel with unexpected depths.
  • FINISH: Scintillating sweet wine notes, with a slide of dry space that lingers delicately, sublimely on the palate.
