Yellowstone 2017 Limited Bourbon Mixes In Some Of Their Own Whiskey

The Limestone Branch distillery in Kentucky, founded by Steve Beam and his brother Paul Beam back in 2011, has been producing whiskey for a bit now, using primarily spirit sourced from other distilleries. One of their flagship products is Yellowstone bourbon, again which is a sourced offering. This looks to be changing a bit now though, with word their 2017 offering has some in house product mixed into the blend.

The new Yellowstone Limited Edition Kentucky Straight Bourbon 2017, according to those behind that, begins as their more traditional sourced blend. In this case this includes a mix of hand-selected, 7- and 12-year Kentucky straight bourbons. What’s then added in as well is much more fascinating – the distillery’s first produced by them 4-year Kentucky straight bourbon!

“We are beyond proud to be using some of our own distillate in this year’s Yellowstone Limited Edition,” said Steve Beam, president and distiller of Limestone Branch Distillery, in a prepared statement. “This is a momentous release for our family and it is meticulously handmade, grain to glass, right here at our distillery.”

This bourbon is finished in wine casks, said to be once-filled, double seasoned barrels, which are toasted and then lightly charred. It is bottled at 101 proof, with each bottle signed by Steve Beam and nestled in commemorative tubes. Approximately 7,000-8,000 bottles of this bourbon are being produced this fall, pricing around $100 a pop.

Limited official tasting notes for Yellowstone Limited Edition Kentucky Straight Bourbon 2017 suggest “an earthy flavor, dark and rich, with a nose of toasted oak, caramel and butterscotch at the front of the palette, giving way to rich leather and dark summer fruit on the finish.”
