Texas’ Bendt Distilling Launches UnBendt Bottled In Bond Bourbon

Bendt Distilling out of Lewisville, Texas, recently released their latest addition to the UnBendt Straight whiskey lineup, their UnBendt Straight Bourbon – Bottled in Bond.

The new expression follows on the heels of the release of UnBendt’s Straight Wheat Whiskey and Straight Malt Whiskey in 2022.

A statement from the distiller notes that this new bourbon highlights local Texas grains, and is made up of Denton County Yellow Dent Corn, Texas Elbon Rye, and 6-Row Distillers Malt.

The distiller’s notes explain that the straight bourbon is aged at least four years in the Texas climate using standard 53-gallon, new charred American white oak barrels.

Clocking in at 100 proof (50% ABV), the Bottled in Bond whiskey features flavors of vanilla, oak and caramel leading to a lingering sweet finish.

The bourbon was distilled in January of 2018 by head distiller and co-founder, Ryan DeHart. With this limited release, five barrels were selected by head blender and co-founder Natasha DeHart.

“We’ve found that our sweet spot in North Texas is between four and six years in a barrel, allowing the whiskey to shine and best represent what we stand for at Bendt,” Natasha said. “It’s extremely important to pull barrels at just the right time. With our volatile Texas climate, barrels get a workout. Sampling regularly and keeping a close eye on the aging process of each batch is key for consistency in the flavor profile.”

This new bourbon, the first of two releases in 2023 for Bendt, has a suggested retail price of $59.99 for a 750ml bottle.
