Stagg Jr. Bourbon Gets Its First Release For 2020

The Buffalo Trace bourbon offering known as Stagg Jr. was originally introduced by the Kentucky distillery back in 2013, being uncut, unfiltered and at particularly high proofs. It has continued twice yearly releases since that time, and now it has been announced the 13th release in this whiskey is now coming available.

The latest iteration of Stagg Jr., according to those behind it, clocks in at 8 years old and 128.4 proof. It, and its elder statesman, George T. Stagg, are both named after George T. Stagg. Said to be “one of the legendary craftsmen of Buffalo Trace Distillery,” he was “responsible for building the most dominant American distillery of the 19th century on the banks of the Kentucky River, now known as Buffalo Trace Distillery.”

Official tasting notes describe this barrel proof whiskey as having a nose with loads of dark cherries, followed by honey.  On the palate, there are flavors of cream caramel mocha followed by cherries, giving it a full-bodied mouthfeel.  The finish is described as a long finish of toasted oak, dark chocolate, and cinnamon.

Should you choose to seek out a bottle of it, Stagg Jr. prices around $50 per 750 ml bottle. If you end up missing this release, Batch 14 is set for a late spring/early summer debut.
