Spirit Of America Bourbon Tugs At Patriotic Heatstrings

Spirit of America bourbonWith the 4th of July just a week and a half away, thoughts this time of year turn to all things Stars and Stripes. This can include bourbon, of course, especially if the bottle it is in showcases Amercia’s colors on it in the name of a good cause. Meet Spirit of America bourbon.

Now you should know up front this bourbon is sourced from MGP by Hobson & Roberts Distilling out of Indiana. It is a high wheat offering, featuring a mash bill that’s 51% corn, 45% wheat and 4% malted barley. It was barreled at 125 proof in new American oak barrels for an undisclosed time before being bottled at a much lower 86 proof.

Hobson & Roberts, in marketing this bourbon, is playing up the “Made in America” card by noting the bottle is made in Missouri, “the cap is from Michigan, the shipper from Minnesota and the bottles are screen printed in Chicago.” It is chill filtered and has surprisingly netted a number of silver medals at spirits competitions in recent months.

As part of the good cause focus of this bourbon we eluded to earlier, it is said $1 of every bottle sold will be donated to Hope For The Warriors, which aims to “enhance the quality of life for post-9/11 service members, their families, and families of the fallen who have sustained physical and psychological wounds in the line of duty.” The average price online for this whiskey seems to be in the neighborhood of $40.

Official tasting notes for Spirit of America are below for your consideration.

Palate: Warm smell of Vanilla, toasted oak, spice and sweet caramel
