Russell’s Reserve 13-Year-Old Bourbon Gets A Second Release

Russell’s Reserve 13-Year-Old Bourbon, when it was released last year for the first time, proved to be a very successful offering from Wild Turkey. It sold out quickly and was also described as a “once in a lifetime bourbon” by spirits writer Fred Minnick. A new release of it is now being made available.

The new batch of Russell’s Reserve 13-Year-Old, according to those behind it, is once again aged a minimum of 13 years and bottled at 114.8 proof. It is non-chill filtered and kept at barrel proof by Wild Turkey Master Distiller Eddie Russell, with the idea behind this being for him that it will retain “all the natural character of the bourbon, resulting in a more robust mouthfeel, just as he intended it.”

“Given the tremendous response to our last release, we are excited to release another small quantity of our Russell’s Reserve 13-Year-Old Bourbon,” said Russell in a prepared statement. “This bourbon is one that’s near and dear to my heart, and I’m proud to be able to share a glass with my dad and son, Bruce, as we celebrate our family’s legacy and this special distillery that we all call home.”

Russell’s Reserve 13-Year-Old Bourbon, noted as the oldest expression of the core range ever released under Wild Turkey’s Russell’s Reserve line up, will continue to be released in small quantities as part of an annual release series moving forward. It will price around $100 per 750 ml bottle for a limited time at select retailers in the U.S.

Official tasting notes from Wild Turkey indicate this “barrel-proof bourbon coats the palate with sweet and warming flavors rising from the harmonious marriage of dried dark fruit and charred confectionary notes. Those sweet and woody notes give way to rich flavors of honey, chocolate and nougat throughout, followed by a strong and lasting finish.”
